 GHANA DEFEAT NIGERIA IN WEST AFRICAN FOOTBALL UNION (WAFU) CUP OF NATIONS FINAL

Home-based Super Eagles suffered a 4-1 defeat at the final of the 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations against host country Ghana on Sunday.
Both sides had earlier met in the group stage with Nigeria winning 2-0 to secure qualification into the semi-finals.
Two goals from STEPHEN SARFO and a goal each from VINCENT ATINGAH and WINFUL COBBINAH saw Ghana defend the WAFU Cup title which they won in 2013 while RABIU ALI scored Nigeria’s consolatory goal in the final minute of the game.
For emerging champions, Ghana received the cash prize of hundred thousand US-Dollars while the home-based Super Eagles got fifty thousand US-Dollars for finishing as runners-up. Nigeria’s goalkeeper IKECHUKWU EZENWA also emerged winner of the Best goalkeeper of the tournament.
