CHINA DEMANDS INDIA PULLS BACK ITS TROOPS FROM CONTESTED BORDER REGION

China has demanded that India pull back its troops from a contested region in Himalayas, amid a worsening border dispute.

According to Indian officials, about 300 soldiers from either side face each other on the Doklam plateau, an area also claimed by India’s ally Bhutan.

The standoff began in June when Chinese troops started building a road onto the plateau towards India’s border.

A Chinese defence ministry spokesman, Colonel WU QIAN, said India must not underestimate China’s determination to safeguard what it considers sovereign territory belonging to China in the Doklam plateau.
