November 7, 2022 Pay ASUU Members Full Salaries, Falana Tells FG

In a related development, Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the immediate payment of the full salaries of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Some members of the union which recently called off their eight-month strike had complained of getting partial salaries for the month October.

Reacting to the development, Falana, who is also the legal representative of ASUU said the position of the federal government on the matter is “factually faulty and legally misleading”.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria argued that since President Buhari overruled the no-work-no-pay principle invoked on members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, it is logical to do the same for ASUU.

Similarly, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, and the acting Accountant General, Sylva Okolieaboh to reverse the deductions.

In an open letter, the Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare also demanded that ASUU members get full salaries for the duration of their eight months’ industrial action.
