Man City And Liverpool Play Out An Entertaining Draw, Leaving The EPL Title Race Wide Open

Liverpool and Manchester City drew 1-1 in their title clash, leaving Arsenal as Premier League leaders.

John Stones’ first-half volley gave City the lead, but Alexis MacAllister equalised with a penalty shortly after the break at Anfield.

The outcome was precisely what Arsenal desired, as the Gunners held top place, a position they secured with Kai Havertz’s late header sealing a thrilling 2-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday.

Arsenal leads second-placed Liverpool by a goal differential of +7, while champions City are one point behind the top two, with all three teams having 10 games remaining.

In a title battle to remember, Arsenal will travel to City for a possibly crucial match on March 31.

In the 23rd minute, City scored their first goal at Anfield thanks to a superb set piece routine.

Kevin De Bruyne sent in a low corner, which Stones finished close to the near post.

Liverpool equalized in the 50th minute as City defender Nathan Ake attempted a kamikaze backpass that Darwin Nunez intercepted.

Ederson, the City goalkeeper, rushed off his line in a desperate attempt to avert the danger, but only managed to catch Nunez with a reckless lunge.

Mac Allister calmly stroked the spot-kick past Ederson, and in a frenzied finish, City’s Jeremy Doku hit the post before escaping another penalty appeal for a high challenge on Liverpool’s striker.

Jurgen Klopp’s final top-flight encounter with City manager Pep Guardiola was made much more significant by his shock declaration that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

After fighting for supremacy throughout their reigns, it was natural that Klopp embraced Guardiola at the final whistle of a match that left the title’s fate in the balance.

March 10, 2024 EPL: Arsenal Defeats Brentford To Go Top Of The Premier League

EPL: Arsenal Defeats Brentford To Go Top Of The Premier League

Kai Havertz scored the winning goal in the dying stages of Saturday’s encounter, securing a 2-1 victory for Arsenal over Brentford.

The late winning goal, however, sent Arsenal to the top of the Premier League standings.

With Liverpool and Manchester City due to face off at Anfield on Sunday, Arsenal had the chance to win their eighth consecutive game and momentarily take the lead in the Premier League table.

Declan Rice headed home a cross from Ben White to give Mikel Arteta’s team an early lead.

However, their lead was short-lived, as goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale made a mistake that allowed Yoane Wissa to equalize shortly before halftime.

In the second half, Arsenal fought hard for the winning goal, with Rice coming close with a thunderous shot that hit the crossbar.

As stress rose and the danger of loosing points loomed, Kai Havertz saved the day with a late header, clinching Arsenal’s thrilling victory.

Anthony Joshua Defeats Ngannou Via Second-Round Knockout

Anthony Joshua, a two-time world champion, knocked out mixed martial arts star Francis Ngannou in the second round of their heavyweight bout early Saturday.

Joshua knocked his Cameroonian opponent to the ground in the opening round and again more in the second in a devastating and quick display of striking power.

Ngannou, 37, a former UFC heavyweight champion, was competing in only his second professional boxing battle after losing a split decision to Tyson Fury in October.

Joshua’s fourth victory in 11 months keeps his dream of regaining the world title alive.

Eddie Hearn requested that Joshua, whom he has promoted throughout the heavyweight’s professional career, face the winner of Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

The fight will take place in May to become the undisputed heavyweight world champion, with a rematch scheduled for later in the year.

“In five years, I won’t be fighting,” Joshua explained. “Eddie Hearn and my team will shape my future.”

With the card running over an hour later than expected, master of ceremonies Michael Buffer introduced Ngannou to the ring at 03:20 local time.

Ngannou walked down the aisle alone, dressed in a pink and white robe with gold tassels, to Drake’s song ‘God’s Plan’.

A frowning Joshua strutted confidently into the ring, his face filled with determination. He knelt in his corner and said a prayer.

Joshua had the loudest response, a mix of boos and jeers. He appeared undeterred, his gaze fixed on Ngannou.

And it was a nearly flawless start for the Watford-born fighter. Ngannou almost missed with a lead left hand, but Joshua stayed calm and composed.

AJ used his backhand to land a flush directly down the pipe. By defeating Ngannou in three minutes, he accomplished what Fury had failed to do in ten rounds four months earlier.

A stunned Ngannou stood up on the count of eight and finished the round.

Joshua has grown as a fighter in recent years, polishing his technical skills. He doubled his jab, bided his time, and waited for an opportunity.

Another right hand had Ngannou yelling on the floor. He beat the count just in time, but the outcome was inevitable.

The final punch was one that will surely take center stage in future Joshua knockout highlights.

Nigerian Midfielder, Frank Onyeka Compares Ivan Toney And Victor Osimhen In An Interview

Frank Onyeka laughs out loud when he was asked if his £100 million-rated Nigeria teammate, Victor Osimhen will join him at Brentford after their Africa Cup of Nations heroics.

Onyeka, a Bees midfielder, started every game for the Super Eagles, who advanced to the final in Ivory Coast before losing to the hosts. Osimhen only scored once throughout that span, but his talent was evident.

The Napoli forward is in high demand, and with several Premier League big spenders looking for a frontman this summer, he might face Onyeka in England next season.

On Osimhen, Onyeka said:

“He’s a really good guy but he’s someone that wants to win,” says Onyeka when asked what it’s like to play with the highly-rated Napoli ace. “He doesn’t like to lose, even in training. He always wants to push players around him, try to encourage them. He’s a fighter.

Of course, Onyeka’s Brentford team-mate Ivan Toney is another striker top clubs could target this summer. Boss Thomas Frank reckons Toney could be worth £100m if he’s sold. For club and country, Onyeka has first-hand experience of playing with two of the world’s top forwards. So how do they compare?

“Ivan is an all-round player, he can go anywhere, he can come down into the midfield,” said Onyeka. “Osimhen is like a target man; he tries to attack the defenders for every ball. “Both are excellent strikers.”

However, another Brentford striker pushed himself into the goal of the season category last weekend. Yoanne Wissa’s spectacular overhead kick startled West London rivals Chelsea. Onyeka was ecstatic to get the assist, unwittingly popping the ball up for his teammate.
