Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson added to England squad for Nations League

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been added to the England squad for Nations League
games against Italy and Germany.
Henderson, 32, was not named in Gareth Southgate’s initial squad because of a hamstring injury.
However, the midfielder has now recovered and has joined up with the squad at St George’s
Park.
He replaces Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, who withdrew over the weekend with a shoulder
problem.
Henderson, who has 69 caps, has missed Liverpool’s last three matches after being injured
during their 2-1 win against Newcastle United at Anfield on 31 August.
He has made only one appearance for England in 2022 – a 2-1 friendly win against Switzerland at
Wembley in March.
England face European champions Italy at the San Siro in Milan on Friday and Germany at
Wembley on Monday.

Ethan Nwaneri Becomes The Youngest Premier League, Player

Fifteen-year-old Ethan Nwaneri became the youngest player in Premier League history in Arsenal's 3-0 win over Brentford.

The English attacking midfielder, who was born in March 2007, replaced Fabio Vieira for the Gunners in stoppage time at Brentford Community Stadium.

Aged 15 years and 181 days, Nwaneri beat the record held by Harvey Elliott.

Liverpool midfielder Elliott was 16 years and 30 days old when he played for Fulham in 2019.

Nwaneri replaced Vieira, who had scored the third goal, after 91 minutes and two seconds. He was involved for three minutes and 42 seconds before the game ended after 94 minutes and 44 seconds.

He is the first player under the age of 16 to play in the Premier League.

Nwaneri has made several appearances for Arsenal Under-18s and played for England Under-16s when he was 14.

Arsenal's win over Brentford took them back to the top of the table following victories for Manchester City and Tottenham on Saturday.

Plateau United, And Rivers United Secure Second-Round Spots

The Nigeria Professional Football League 2021-22 season runners-up Plateau United yesterday cruised to the second round of CAF Champions League following a 1-0 win over Gabonese AS Stade Mandji courtesy of Haggai Katoh’s 65th-minute strike.

Nigeria’s representatives thus booked a place in the next round with a 3-2 aggregate win.

After a scoreless first half, Katoh netted the only goal of the game in the 65th minute and handed Plateau United a vital victory.

The visiting side proved a hard nut to crack right from the blast of the whistle and they were able to take the game to Nigeria’s representative.

The away draw and goals secured by Plateau United last weekend in Franceville gave them confidence as they were able to nullify all the attacking threats of the Gabonese team.

Plateau United will now prepare for to face Tunisian giants Esperance Sportive of Tunis with the first leg in Nigeria on the weekend of October 7-9 before the return leg in Tunis a week later.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s league reigning champions, Rivers United also scaled through to the second round despite losing 1-0 in Monrovia against debutants, Watanga FC.

The Pride of Rivers conceded a goal in the first quarter of the game from the penalty spot but they held on to pull through 3-1 on aggregate.

Rivers United will now face defending Champions of the competition, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the next round for a group stage spot

Brilliant Iwobi Helps Everton To First EPL Win

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi continued his brilliant start to the English Premier League as he provided an assist to help Everton to their first win of the season against West Ham yesterday.

The former Arsenal star supplied the assist for Neal Maupay’s clincher as the Toffees were looking to do one better and claim their first three points of the season after a great performance against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park two weeks ago.

Iwobi played a beautiful pass into the path of Neal Maupay, who sent a sublime shot past Fabianski in the West Ham goal to make it 1-0 for Frank Lampard’s side eight minutes after the break.

Iwobi registered 74 touches and an 83 percent pass accuracy in yet another good game in the middle of the park and has completed the ninety minutes in all seven of Everton’s Premier League matches this term, clocking two assists.

Speaking after the game, Iwobi commented on the win: “We have been playing well. The performances were good; it was just about getting the result and getting the win. It’s a great way to go into the international break.”

When asked about his key pass that played in Neal Maupay to get his first goal in an Everton shirt, Iwobi seemed thrilled.
