Past Bbnaija Winners Didn’t Deserve To Win – Pere Egbi

Pere Egbi, a former participant in the Big Brother Naija reality show, has expressed his view that past winners of the competition did not deserve their prizes. He suggested that the voting pattern among Nigerians was driven more by emotions than logical considerations.

In his statement, Pere implied that if the reality show were in South Africa or the United States, the winners might have been different due to a more discerning voting process. Despite his participation in the show twice, first in the 'Shine Ya Eye' season in 2021 and later in the All-Stars edition in 2023, Pere asserted that he would decline the opportunity to participate again.

During a recent discussion, Pere shared his perspective: "My experience in the Big Brother Naija house was a rollercoaster. I had different encounters with different people and experiences that gave me something. Overall, it was good. But if I were asked to return to the [BBNaija] house again, I would not. Simply because I feel Nigerians are not ready for reality TV. Many Nigerians who vote for these guys in these shows in Nigeria, especially Big Brother, are one-track-minded. I’m being honest; if this were a South African or American show, I don’t think the people who won will win.”

Singer Simi Advocates For Couples To Cohabit Before Tying The Knot

In a recent episode of the Tea with Tay podcast, popular Nigerian singer Simi shared her perspective on marriage, advocating for couples to consider living together before taking the plunge into matrimony.

Expressing her viewpoint, Simi acknowledged that her stance might not resonate with everyone, especially considering potential differences in religious beliefs. Despite this, she stressed the importance of understanding each other's personalities comprehensively before committing to a lifelong partnership.

Opening up about her belief, Simi stated, "Maybe I shouldn’t share this opinion because I feel like religious people might not agree with me. [But] I personally think that people who want to get married should live together for a little bit before they do that. Because I don’t think you really know someone that you’re going to marry until you cohabit."

Simi highlighted the significance of experiencing various facets of a partner's character that may not be apparent in public settings. She emphasized that observing someone in different situations, whether hungry, cranky, waking up in the morning, or snoring, provides crucial insights.

While recognizing that some people have successfully married without cohabiting, Simi believes that living together offers valuable insights into compatibility, enabling individuals to make more informed decisions about spending their lives together. She explained, "When you live with someone you know all sides to, that is when you know if you can do forever with them. Millions of people have gotten married without living together. But I personally think it’s a good idea to cohabit before marriage."

Simi clarified that cohabitation doesn't necessarily have to be an extended period but suggested that even a brief time spent living together can offer valuable insights into the dynamics of a relationship.

Mr Ibu’s Son, Daughter Arrested For Alleged Theft Of N55m Donations

The Nigeria Police Force announced on Thursday that it apprehended the son and adopted daughter of Mr John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu, for allegedly embezzling N50 million intended for the ailing actor's medical expenses. The Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Ikoyi, Lagos State, made the arrests.

The suspects, identified as Onyeabuchi Okafor and Jasmine Okekeagwu, are accused of conspiring to commit the crime. The actor's family disclosed in October 2023 that Mr Ibu had undergone multiple surgeries and sought further treatment abroad, expressing gratitude for donations from his fans.

The police statement, signed by Public Relations Officer Mayegun Amina, revealed that the arrest followed a petition from Diamond Waves Law on behalf of the actor's wife, Stella Okafor. The petition alleged that Mr Ibu's sons, Onyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Valentine Okafor, and the adopted daughter Jasmine conspired to defraud the ailing actor.

According to the investigation, the suspects hacked Mr. Ibu's phone to carry out the fraudulent act. The statement explained, "Investigation into the case established that as part of efforts to fund his medical bills, Mr Ibu launched a public fundraising initiative and attracted donations from his fans, entertainment industry players, and other well-spirited members of the public."

Initially, Mr Ibu's wife managed the funds, but the suspects allegedly manipulated her, took possession of Mr Ibu's phone, and hacked into the banking details. The police claimed that the duo reinstalled the banking app on the actor's phone, transferred N55 million from the donations, and intended to use the proceeds for travel abroad.

The police also asserted that they recovered the stolen N55 million. Onyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu were charged at the Chief Magistrate Court 1, Yaba, for conspiracy and stealing. During the investigation, it was discovered that N5 million had been spent on questionable transactions, while the remaining N50 million was recovered.

The suspects were granted bail, and the case was adjourned to March 11, 2024. The case file has been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice. The Ibu family has reportedly faced internal conflicts, with the actor's wife accusing the adopted daughter, Jazmine, of misappropriating funds donated by well-meaning Nigerians. The wife emphasised the importance of her husband's health amid these challenges.
