Two officers of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps have been found dead in Benue State following a gun battle with armed attackers suspected to be herdsmen.
NSCDC spokesperson, EMMANUEL OKEH, who disclosed this in a telephone interview yesterday said the attack occurred in Guma Local Government Area of the state.
The remains of the officers have been taken to the Benue State Teaching Hospital in Makurdi, the state capital, he said.
The news came hours after one of the two officers in the Benue state police command declared missing was found dead.
A statement signed by spokesman of the command, MOSES YAMU, said the police officer was found “brutally slaughtered” adding that some of the his sense organs, including his eyes and nose were removed.
Recall that four officers of the Benue state police command went missing after suspected herdsmen, said to be fully armed, opened fire on the police team while they were returning from an assignment in some villages in Logo local government area of the state on Saturday.
Two of the four later returned to the state command on Sunday and were said to be in a sound state.
