Andy Murray Withdraws from Brisbane International

Andy Murray has withdrawn from the Brisbane International due to pain in his right hip.

Murray has not played competitively since losing to Sam Querrey at Wimbledon in June last year because of a hip injury.

The British number one, who has slipped to number 16 in the world rankings during his absence, is still scheduled to compete at the Australian Open, which begins on January 15.

Murray said: “I’m very disappointed to be withdrawing from the Brisbane International.

“I came here with every intention of making a strong start to the year, but sadly my team and I don’t feel that I’m where I need to be just yet to compete at the highest level.”

Murray was scheduled to play Ryan Harrison in the second round in Brisbane, having received a bye to progress through the first round
