Tragedy struck on the Ife-Ibadan Expressway yesterday as 11 persons, including children, were burnt to death after an 18-seater bus collided with a fuel tanker.
The accident, which caused gridlock on the expressway, reportedly happened at a roundabout opposite Moremi Estate, in front of Energy Filling Station in Ile Ife.
The diesel-laden tanker was said to be negotiating the roundabout when the passenger bus, which was said to be coming from Ore in Ondo State, reportedly rammed into it from behind.
Eyewitness report that the bus caught fire and the passengers, who became unconscious due to the impact of the collision, became trapped inside the burning vehicle.
Nine passengers were said to have died on the spot, while some of the victims, who were rescued, eventually gave up the ghost.
