SENATE BERATES FEDERAL AGENCIES OVER FAILURE TO SUBMIT 2017 BUDGET PROPOSAL TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY FOR CONSIDERATION AND APPROVAL.

The Senate has expressed concerns over the failure of federal agencies to submit their 2017 budget proposal to the National Assembly in line with the extant law for consideration and approval.

Some of the agencies which have failed to submit their budget proposals for approval by the National Assembly include the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bureau of Public Enterprises, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.

Others are Nigerian Shippers’ Council, National Maritime Authority, Raw Materials Research and Development Council, National Sugar Development Council, Nigerian Postal Service, Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, among others.

Deputy Senate Leader, BALA IBN NA’ALLAH, who drew the attention of his colleagues to the abnormality during plenary said it was wrong for agencies to spend money that has not been appropriated by the legislature.

The Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI who condemned the practice where agencies of government spend money without statutory approval by the National Assembly, ruled that the issue be debated and resolution taken by the Senate today.
