The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, BABACHIR LAWAL, has told the Senate that he would not appear before its ad-hoc committee on ‘mounting crisis in the North East’ today.
The SGF, in a personally signed letter dated 22nd March 2017 and titled: “Re-Invitation for public hearing”, addressed to the Chairman of the committee, Senator SHEHU SANI, said he would not honour the committee’s invitation because he had already gone to court over the matter upon which he is being invited.
The committee is investigating the utilisation of funds released to the Presidential Initiative for the North East, PINE a special intervention agency under the supervision of SGF BABACHIR LAWAL.
In its interim report submitted last year, the ad-hoc committee accused Mr. LAWAL of awarding a “grass-cutting” contract by PINE to Rholavision in March 2016 while still being director of the company and at the same time the SGF.
But Mr. LAWAL said he resigned from Rholavision as director when he became the SGF in 2015, before the contract in the North East was awarded to the company.
