Convicted Former Delta state governor, JAMES IBORI, had a thanksgiving service in church yesterday to celebrate his freedom after serving a jail term in the United Kingdom.
The thanksgiving service at the First Baptist Church in Oghara, IBORI’s home town, was attended by the former state governor, EMMANUEL UDUAGHAN, the Secretary to the Delta State Government, FESTUS OVIE-AGAS, Senators PETER NWAOBOSHI and PATRICK OSAKWE among others.
However, Governor IFEANYI OKOWA was not among the political bigwigs who gathered at the event. OKOWA’s absence may not be unconnected with the allegations that state funds were released for the programme.
IBORI was convicted and jailed in the UK for stealing 250 million dollars belonging to the Delta state government when he served as governor. He only returned to Nigeria last month.
Speaking at the thanksgiving service, JAMES IBORI, claimed he is not a thief, but said what was most painful to him during his ordeal was the pain and suffering that his people were going through.
