The Minister of State for Aviation, Senator HADI SIRIKA has announced plans to shut down the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for repairs of the runway for six weeks in February and March, 2017.
He said the repair of the runway has been approved by the federal government.
While briefing newsmen yesterday, SIRIKA said during the period of the closure, the Kaduna airport will serve as alternative airport for air travellers.
He said the Ministry has held a meeting with the Kaduna state government on the provision of buses to convey the passengers to Abuja.
SIRIKA expressed dismay over the hardships travellers are facing due to scarcity of aviation fuel and assured that he is working with the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Ministry of Petroleum and the oil marketers to ensure the crisis is resolved.
