Nigerians have been charged to cultivate the habit of being generous to the poor and the needy in order to reduce the high level of poverty among the people in the country.
Executive Director of the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, SULAYMAN OLAGUNJU gave this charge at the twelfth Zakat distribution of the group in Ikeja.
He said seven hundred indigent residents of Lagos state benefitted from the over sixty-eight-point-seven million Naira Zakat distributed at the event.
Former Executive Director of the foundation, Imam SHUAIB ABDULLAHI blamed greed and economic situation as reasons why Nigerians refused to support the poor.
On his part, the chairman of the event, MUMUNI ALAO said payment of Zakat is an injunction from Allah and urged the beneficiaries to set a goal of becoming a giver of Zakat themselves.
