The Inspector-General of Police, IBRAHIM IDRIS has set up a high-powered investigative team to probe the killing of DSP MOHAMMED ALKALI and the disappearance of some officers during the rerun elections in Rivers State last Saturday.
He stated that some disgruntled elements in the state attempted to foist violence and insecurity on the populace, but insisted the rerun elections were “a huge success” in contrast to the past elections held in the state.
The Force Spokesman, DONALD AWUNAH, in a statement in Abuja, said the IG expressed satisfaction with the performance of the police officers deployed in Rivers for the elections.
AWUNAH stated that the IG’s master plan on election security would continue to be improved upon for future elections.
According to AWUNAH, the report by a Non-Government Organisation, CLEEN Foundation, that the elections were marred by irregularities and violence perpetrated by security operatives and electoral officers lacked substance.
