Reports have it that malaria is ravaging several states across the country as hospitals and health centres are being overwhelmed by thousands of patients every day.
According to a report by the Daily Trust, dozens of people have been killed by the epidemic with patients now resorting to herbal medicine due to poor finances and in some cases congestion in the public health services.
A professor of Child Health at the University of Ilorin OLUGBENGA MOKUOLU said Nigeria today accounts for one third of the global malaria deaths.
Malaria is also responsible for one-fourth of all infant-related deaths, and one-third of deaths in children less than five years.
The worst affected states in the new raging epidemic are Kaduna, Sokoto, Kano, Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kogi, and Jigawa states.
