Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated Plateau United 3-0 in a test game ahead of Sunday’s World Cup qualifier in Zambia.
Gent of Belgium defensive midfielder Anderson Esiti opened scoring in the 36th minute following a fine solo run. Plateau United, who finished 11th this past season, played more as a team. The Eagles struggled to impose themselves on the match up to the first half an hour, before they upped their game.
In the second half, what looked like the starting XI for Sunday’s match were introduced wholesale with right-back Musa Mohammed the only survivor from the first half. Those changes paid off with Arsenal star Alex Iwobi again catching the eye with a brace.
Performances varied, with Olympiacos striker Brown Ideye unable to convert chances while Joshua Obaje and Kabiru Umar posted stellar results.
Barring any last minute change, the Super Eagles will not play any more friendly before their trip to Ndola on Saturday.
