Barcelona scored twice in three first-half minutes to set up a 5-0 victory over Sporting Gijon away from home.
The Liga champions had come close through Andre Gomes shortly before the half-hour — but they took the lead two minutes laterwhen Luis Suarez beat goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar to an Arda Turan pass. Rafinha doubled the lead, three minutes after to make it 2-0.
Sporting’s hopes of getting anything disappeared when Alberto Lora was sent off for a second booking, and three more goals in the closing stages from Neymar (two) and Turan wrapped up a comfortable win.
Athletic Bilbao ended Sevilla‘s unbeaten start in LaLiga with a 3-1 victory at San Mames.
Mikel San Jose bundled them ahead in the first half, but Samir Nasri’s first goal since joining Sevilla on loan from Manchester City drew the visitors level after the break.
Athletic through left-back Mikel Balenziaga, and Aritz Aduriz added a third from the penalty spot in the final minute after Sevilla goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu was sent off for elbowing him in the back.
