The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has frozen the personal bank account of former First Lady PATIENCE JONATHAN.
The frozen account is believed to be the one domiciled at Skye Bank and which has a five million dollar balance.
Reports say the decision to freeze the account became necessary due to the prima facie case established against her.
According to sources within the EFCC, this account with five million dollars is different from the accounts of four other companies which had a total of fifteen point five million dollars and which Mrs. JONATHAN deposed to an affidavit laying claim to the funds.
Earlier this week, chairman of the EFCC, IBRAHIM MAGU while interacting with the media and civil society said the accounts of the former First Lady were being investigated and that no one will be spared in the federal government’s anti-corruption war.
On her part, Mrs. JONATHAN had called the EFCC a big thief and have threatened a five million naira lawsuit against the agency.
She had also sued Skye Bank for two hundred million naira, accusing the Bank of freezing her accounts unjustly.
