Zambia prepare for Nigeria showdown with release of provisional list

Zambia have named a strong 33-man provisional squad for next month’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria with overseas stars Rainford Kalaba, Kennedy Mweene, Chisamba Lungu and Stoppila Sunzu all included . There are eight foreign professionals in total.

The bulk are mostly home based as seven stem from CAF Champions League semi-finalists Zesco United. The squad was picked by assistant coach Wedson Nyirenda.

The Football Association of Zambia is planning a  friendly match with South Korea on September  28 ahead of the crucial tie.

Zambia welcome Nigeria to Ndola on October 9.

Meanwhile, Gernot Rohr’s highly anticipated list is set to be released this week and it is understood that the Super Eagles handler will stick with the same players from the AFCON qualifier against Tanzania with Oghenekaro Etebo and Moses Simon likely to miss out out on account of injuries as Kenneth Omeruo and Alex Iwobi are set for a return.

Midfielders: Charles Zulu, Fwayo Tembo, Rainford Kalaba, Chota Chama, John Chin’gandu, Jack Chirwa, Mischeck Chaila, Richard Kasonde, Nathan Sinkala, Rodrick Kabwe, Mwape Mwelwa, Chisamba Lungu.
Strikers: Justin Shonga, Jackson Mwanza, Kalengo Winstone, Lewis Macha, Patson Daka, Collins Mbesuma.
