Rio 2016 Paralympics: Iranian cyclist dies of cardiac arrest

An Iranian Para-cyclist has died after a crash during the men’s road race at the Rio Paralympics.

The International Paralympic Committee said the 48-year-old Bahman Golbarnezhad suffered cardiac arrest after the incident on a “mountainous stretch” of circuit.

“The ambulance then diverted to the nearby Unimed Rio Hospital in Barra where he passed away soon after arrival,” a statement added.

Golbarnezhad also competed at the London Paralympics in 2012. An investigation into the circumstances of the accident has been launched.

Meanwhile, the games will come to an this Sunday with China finishing 1st with 237 medals, 105 gold medalsfollowed by Great Britain, Ukraine, USA  and Australia making the top 5 as hosts Brazil coming in 8th place with 14 gold medals, 71 medals in total.

Team Nigeria leads the African contingent with a record eight gold medals and 12 in total.
