EPL ; Arsenal leave win till late, Tottenham win at Brittania

Arsenal needed a late penalty to grab a 2-1 win against Southampton at the Emirates Stadium.

Santi Cazrola scored from the spot kick after Referee Robert Madley pointed to the spot after a Jose Fonte tussle with Olivier Giroud who came on as a substitute for new signing Lucas Perez.

Earlier, Petr Cech scored an own goal in the 18th minute as the ball came off his back to roll into the net after a Southampton freekick, but birthday boy Laurent Koscielny drew level with a stunning overhead kick.

But questions will be asked as to whether play should have been stopped by referee Madley as Gunners’ skipper Koscielny lay prone in front of the Saints goal with a head injury at the time.


Tottenham repeated their April annihilation of Stoke with another 4-0 win at the bet365 Stadium to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Son Heung-Min, brought in for Erik Lamela after he played for Argentina in midweek, scored twice in the second half  and England internationals Dele Alli and Harry Kane, both of whom scored doubles back in April, found the net for the first time this season.

Watford completed a remarkable comeback helped by poor defending from West Ham after firing four unanswered goals in a thrilling 4-2 Premier League victory. Dimitri Payet twice set up Michail Antonio to give the Hammers a comfortable lead, only for Walter Mazzarri’s men to spring into action on an afternoon of high drama at London Stadium.

Nigerian International Odion Ighalo got on the score sheet, Troy Deeney, Etienne Capoue and Jose Holebas also were on target.

Crystal Palace new record signing Christian Benteke opened scoring for Crystal Palace with Wilfried Zaha’s grabbing the winner to hand palace their first Premier League win of the season as they ended Middlesbrough’s unbeaten start to the campaign with a 2-1 victory.


Jack Wilshere made his Bournemouth debut from the bench and promptly helped them to a first victory of the season against West Bromwich Albion in a match that ended 1-0 courtesy a Callum Wilson goal.
