Australia set a new record for most runs scored in a Twenty20 international innings as they thrashed Sri Lanka by 85 runs in the first T20 international in Pallekele.
The visitors piled on 263-3- eclipsing the previous record of 260- set by Sri Lanka against Kenya in 2007.
All-rounder Glenn Maxwell, promoted to open the innings, hit a stunning 145 not out from just 65 balls as Australian ran the bowlers and fielders ragged.
It comes eight days after England set a new record score in one day international cricket, making 444 against Pakistan – which also beat a record previously held by Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka could only manage 178-9 in reply, as Australia took a 1-0 lead in the 2-match series..
