England Strike Late to Beat Slovakia

New England manager, Sam Allardyce began his reign on a winning note as England defeated 10-man Slovakia 1-0 in their opening match of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Adam Lallana struck deep into injury time to spare England’s blushes after they had struggled to break down their hosts, who had Martin Skrtel sent off early in the second half.

England are second in Group F, behind Scotland on goal difference, following the Scots’ 5-1 victory in Malta.

Elsewhere, Thomas Muller scored twice as Germany took early control of Group C with a 3-0 victory at Norway, while Czech Republic were held to a drab goalless draw by Northern Ireland.

Denmark are the early leaders in Group E after Christian Erickson gave them a 1-0 victory over Armenia, while Poland threw away a 2-goal lead in Kazakhstan- drawing 2-2 after Bartosz Kaputska and Robert Lewandowski had put the visitors two up.
