World number one, Serena Williams moved into the third round of the US Open with a 6-3 6-3 victory over fellow American, Vania King.
Williams was not quite at her best, but she was still too good for King, whom she dismissed in just 67 minutes.
Next up for the top seed is a third round clash with Sweden’s Johanna Larsson.
Other winners on Thursday include Serena’s elder sister, Venus, who eased past German, Julia Goerges 6-2 6-3, while Agnieszka Radwanska was made to work hard for her 7-6 6-3 victory over Britain’s Naomi Broady.
In the men’s draw, there were wins for Andy Murray, Stanislas Wawrinka and Juan Martin del Potro, who all advanced into the third round.
