Messi Scores on International Return

Lionel Messi marked his return to international football with a goal as Argentina defeated Uruguay 1-0 to climb to the top of the South American World Cup qualifying group.

Messi’s deflected strike put the hosts up in the forty-third minute, but the home side had to play the entire second half with ten men following Paolo Dybala’s  red card on the stroke of half time.
Messi had announced his retirement from international football in June after the disappointment of losing the Copa America final, but he made a u-turn in August.

In other key results on Thursday night, Brazil were 3-0 winners at Ecuador, while Paraguay beat Chile 2-1.
