Nigeria will not defend her FIFA World Under-17 title after crashing out of the African qualifiers to Niger Republic in the preliminary stage.
The Golden Eaglets lost the second leg of the African qualifiers 3-1 on Saturday to the Junior Mena of Niger to lose out 3-2 on aggregate.
Nigeria had two weeks ago beaten Niger by a 1-0 slim win but could do nothing in the return leg in Niamey losing 3-1.
The tensed game in Niamey saw the Nigeriens take the lead before Nigeria found the equaliser in an even first half.
The Junior Mena scored two more goals in the second half as Nigeria battled to get the important away goal which didn’t materialise.
It spells further disappointment for Nigeria youth sides as the Under 20 team, the Flying Eagles, will not be participating in the Africa Cup of Nations U-20 tournament in Zambia next year after being knocked out by Sudan a few weeks ago.
