Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has released his first Super Eagles squad, ahead of the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania.
The match against Tanzania is effectively a dead rubber, as both teams are out of the running for qualification- and it will be played in Uyo on Saturday, September 3.
The 23-man squad includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders, four midfielders and eight forwards.
There were no major surprises in the squad, with goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, midfielders, John Mikel Obi and Ogenyi Onazi, and forwards, Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho all making Rohr’s first list.
Mikel is one of five members of the Nigerian team doing battle at the Olympics to be included- the others being goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel, defenders William Troost-Ekong, Kingsley Madu, and Shehu Abdullahi and forward, Imoh Ezekiel.
There is however no place for Oghenekaro Etebo, who hasn’t featured in the knock-out stages at the Olympics because of injuries, while former national under-17 superstar, Victor Osimhen gets his first call-up to the Super Eagles.
