Argentina crashed out of the men’s football event at the Rio Olympics after a 1-1 draw against Honduras in their final group match in Brasilia.
The South American giants needed to win to move into the knock-out stages, but their quest was dealt a big blow when they fell behind to an Antony Lozano penalty in the 75th minute.
Argentina pushed hard for an equalizer- and struck through Mauricio Martinez deep into injury time- but it was too little too late as they exited the tournament after finishing third in Group D.
Following Argentina through the exit door are London 2012 champions, Mexico, who lost 1-0 to South Korea, while Germany moved on with a 10-0 victory over Fiji.
The quarter-final fixtures are now set: Host nation, Brazil play Colombia; Portugal play Germany; South Korea take on Honduras; while Nigeria confront Denmark.
