Nigeria’s lone representative in the rowing tournament at the Olympics, Chierika Ukogu has advanced to the quarter-finals of the women’s Rowing event.
Ukogu competed in the Women’s sculls heat 5, finishing third in a time of 8:35:34, the 23 year old American born rower finished third behind Austria’s Lobnig Magdalena who came first with a time of 8:26:38 and Czech’s Topinkova Miroslava in second with a time of 8:29:90.
Ukogu is currently ranked 15th after the heats. She will now partake in the Quarter-finals which holds on Tuesday.
Bulgaria’s Neikova Rumyana holds the world record with a time of 7:07.71. She achieved that feat at the Seville 2002 Championship.
