Rangers International of Enugu climbed to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League after 1-1 draw against reigning champions Enyimba at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Enyimba took the lead on the stroke of half time through Chukwude Stephen, but Rangers’ response was instant as Godwin Aguda’s leveller ensured a brilliant half of football ended all square.
There were no further goals in the match, as Rangers earned the point that moved them above Wikki Tourists in the race for the title.
The draw leaves Enyimba sixth on the table, seven points off the lead, but the Peoples’ Elephant have two games in hand.
Wikki went into the weekend on top of the log, but the Bauchi side came crashing in Uyo- losing 3-0 to Akwa United.
Elsewhere, Sunday Adetunji’s late penalty gave Shooting Stars a 2-1 victory over Sunshine Stars in the south-west derby, while four-time champions, Kano Pillars fell 2-1 at FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
