Afghan capital Kabul, suffers attack from Taliban fighters

A compound housing foreign contractors in the Afghan capital, Kabul, has come under attack from Taliban fighters.

A huge explosion was heard across the city early this morning.

Kabul Police Chief, ABDEL RAHMAN RAHIMI told the BBC that a lorry bomb went off at the gate of the compound and then two gunmen went inside.

In a gun battle that lasted for several hours, one police officer and both attackers were killed while three police officers were injured.

However, no one staying at the heavily guarded North Gate compound was injured.
