Manchester City’s manager Manuel Pellegrini has said that he is impressed but not surprised by Kelechi Ihenacho’s recent performances after the youngster scored a hatrick in City’s latest game against Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
He said at a presss conference: “I see him working every day so I know what he can do during the game. Maybe I received some criticism for why we didn’t replace Dzeko and Jovetic at the beginning of the season and I answered that we have Kelechi.
“To score a hat trick is not easy but I’m impressed because I see him in the way he works every day and how he’s improving in every session working with these important players.” he added.
However, Iheanacho was not included in City’s Champions League squad at the start of the season and Pellegrini now faces an awkward decision over whether to add him to his 25-man European squad.
“It’s a decision we are going to take during this week before the date that we can do it, but of course he pushed a lot.
“We need him because Wilfried Bony is also injured so that leaves just one striker. We’ll see — not because of the three goals but because we need another striker.”
