Lionel Messi scored a wonderful volley to give Barcelona a 2-1 win at Malaga and hand the Catalans three points.
Messi missed Barcelona’s midweek Copa del Rey game against Athletic Bilbao with a hamstring problem, but came back to volley in Adriano’s cross for the decisive goal.
Munir El Haddadi had given Barca the lead after 70 seconds but Juanpi netted a deserved equaliser for Malaga eight minutes before the break.
The lead was then restored for Barca by Messi early in the second half to temporarily take them top of the La Liga.
Barca lead Atletico Madrid by a point, with a game in hand, although Diego Simeone’s side can reclaim top spot on Sunday with a win over Sevilla before next weekend’s game against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
