President Muhammadu Buhari today rewarded the class of 1985 who were victorious at the U-17 World Cup in Japan.
Addressing the footballers who won the coveted crown 31 years ago as well as other victorious athletes, the President duly apologized and announced cash rewards of N2 million each for the players while the coaches took home N1.5 million each.
The recently crowned U-17 World Cup Champions in Chile led by Emmanuel Amuneke were among the recipients as the players received N1.2 million each while the African U-23 players carted away N500,000 each
It was however noted that the Ministry of Youth and Sports templates were used in arriving at the amount for the athletes and officials.
Other athletes rewarded include the Afrobasket winners – D’Tigers, World Scrabble Champion, WBC Silver Cruiser Weight title holder, FIBA Africa Women’s U-16 Championship Silver medallists and the IPC Asian Open Power lifting Championship medallists
