England midfielder, Jonjo Shelvey is set to join Newcastle United after the Magpies agreed a £12m fee with Swansea City.
The 23-year-old, who boasts six England caps, will have a medical at St James’ Park before a deal is completed on Tuesday between the Premier League relegation rivals.
Shelvey will become Newcastle’s second January signing after Senegal midfielder, Henri Saivet arrived from Bordeaux.
The combative midfielder joined Swansea from Liverpool for an initial fee of £5m in July 2013, and signed a four-year extension in 2015, helping the Swans to their highest Premier League finish of eighth last season.
He enjoyed a decent start to the current Premier League campaign, but has started just three league games since October and was not part of the squad for the recent matches against Leicester, Manchester City and Manchester United.
Newcastle occupy the final Premier League relegation spot with the Swans only two points and one place above them in 17th.
