The 2015 Ballon d’Or Gala in Zurich is underway as the world stay glued to the unveiling of the best player for the year 2015.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar are the three-man finalists from a list of twenty-three.
Each of the last seven prizes have been won by either Real Madrid’s Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Messi but both players this year face competition from Messi’s teammate Neymar who is the joint-top scorer in La Liga so far this season with 15 goals in 16 appearances.
Messi– a four time winner is overwhelming favourite to win his fifth as the Argentine led Barcelona to a La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey treble last season, scoring a remarkable 28 goals in the second half of the campaign.
Ronaldo is aiming for his third consecutive award, although he has his work cut out after ending last season without any silverware. He scored 29 goals in the second half of last season becoming Madrid’s all- time record goalscorer in October.
The impressive Neymar helped Barcelona in Messi’s absence in the latter stages of 2015 as he scored 24 goals in the second half of Barcelona’s treble-winning season.
Other awards are also up for grabs as Messi is again in contention for the FIFA PUSKAS Award(best goal of the year) for his solo effort against Athletic Bilbao. He is up against Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi and Brazilian Wendell Lira.
Barcelona’s Luis Enrique, Pep Guardiola of Bayern Munich and National team coach Jorge Sampaoli of Chile vie for the coach of the year award.
The list of the World’s best 11 players already has been revealed ; Manuel Neuer(Bayern Munich), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) Thiago Silva(PSG), Dani Alves (Barcelona) Marcelo(Real Madrid), Luka Modric (Real Madrid), Paul Pogba(Juventus), Andres Iniesta (Real Madrid), Neymar (Barcelona), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (Barcelona).
