World Under-17 champions, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will be rewarded by President Mohammadu Buhari on January 21 in Abuja, according to Sports minister, Solomon Dalung.
The Eaglets claimed a fifth world title in Chile after defeating Mali 2-0 in November’s final.
Nigeria had previously won the competition in 1985, 1993, 2007 and 2013- with the victorious teams receiving huge cash gifts, houses and national honours for their feats.
The sports minister further disclosed that other teams who did Nigeria proud internationally in 2015 will also be rewarded by the president.
Several other Nigerian teams excelled in 2015, including the U-23 football team- Dream Team VI- who were victorious at the Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations in December, while the national basketball team, D’Tigers won their first-ever AfroBasket Championship to qualify for the Rio Olympics.
