Andy Murray and Heather Watson were in superb form as Great Britain defeated Germany 3-0 in the Hopman Cup to keep alive their hopes of making Saturday’s final.
The pair defied searing morning temperatures in Perth to register respective singles victories before teaming up to win the mixed doubles rubber.
Watson set the ball rolling with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Sabine Lisicki before Murray sped past Alexander Zverev 6-3 6-4 to give the Britons a 2-0 advantage.
Murray and Watson then came together to record a comfortable 6-3 6-4 win in the mixed doubles.
Britain still need France to beat Australia Green in the last group game to reach Saturday’s final.
The Hopman Cup represents useful preparation for the Australian Open, which starts in Melbourne on 18 January.
