The ancient and traditional city of Kano in Nigeria’s North West witnessed a Sharia Court decision sentencing to death a Muslim cleric for blaspheming Prophet MUHAMMED.
The cleric, ABDUL NIASSE was sentenced at a secret trial in Kano in order to avoid a repeat of the mob action seen during a previous hearing of the court.
The court’s prosecutor, LAMIDO ABA SORON-DINKI told reporters that the cleric was arrested in August in Abuja where he was hiding and was brought back to Kano for trial.
He said ABDUL NIASSE has up to a month to appeal the sentence.
The cleric caused public outrage in May last year when he allegedly made derogatory remarks about Prophet MUHAMMED to his followers as they marked the birthday of the former leader of the Muslim Tijanniya Sufi order, IBRAHIM NIASSE.
The federal government in case you did not know has never allowed the execution of anyone convicted by an Islamic court.
