Top scorer in the Nigerian Professional Football League, Gbolahan Salami could opt out of next month’s African Nations Championship because of a potential move to Europe.
The Warri Wolves hitman is the only player yet to join the Eagles training camp in Abuja, and team officials have said he could be working on a move abroad.
Salami scored 17 goals in the league last season, and has captained the CHAN Eagles, but has never hidden his desire to play in Europe.
Should he sign for an overseas club, the forward will be ineligible to feature at next month’s championships as the tournament is reserved for only players plying their trades in their home leagues.
Meanwhile, defender, Chima Akas has also emerged as a doubt for the championships after the relapse of a knee injury.
The Sharks left back first suffered the injury in a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Swaziland in Port Harcourt, but was certified fit on return to the Eagles training camp for the CHAN only for the injury to act up again.
His fitness problems have been further compounded by a bout of malaria.
He is currently training apart from the main squad as he fights to regain full fitness.
