Arsenal are still two points off Leicester but they now have a four-point lead over City in third position as goals from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud last night swung the game in favour in Arsene Wenger’s team, as they hung on to a 2-1 lead after Yaya Touré’s gorgeous goal in 83rd minute.
City could not complete a comeback, one if they had gotten will not be enough to cover the obvious deficiencies in Manuel Pellegrini’s team as Arsenal had the better blend between defence and attack.
Mesut Özil was involved in both Arsenal goals as he played the final pass for Walcott to open the scoring with a curling finish in the 33rd minute and a through ball to Olivier Giroud 12 minutes after allowed the French man fire an angled shot beneath Joe Hart.
The German has now set up 15 of Arsenal’s league goals, the best by any player in the top five leagues around Europe and to put in better context, the next player on the list of assists, in the premier league Gerard Deulofeu, has contributed seven for Everton.
City’s fifth defeat of the season would be rued as one where they had the better spells of possession but failed to create better chances and lacked basic organizational skills especially in defence, as they look error prone for large spells of the game.
There are other worries for Pellegrini asides the fact that Arsenal are four points ahead of them going into Christmas, it is how the big name players which they have been said to be over reliant on can’t seem to influence games as they ought to.
Arsene Wenger has to worry about injuries, especially as Alexis Sanchez has been ruled out for another 3 weeks following his hamstring injury setback but his Arsenal side certainly are on the right track in that title chase.
