Barcelona became FIFA Club World Cup champions for the third time after a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Argentine side, River Plate at the Yokohama International Stadium in Japan on Sunday
Lionel Messi- returning from a kidney problem- opened the scoring via a Neymar assist, while Luis Suarez doubled the lead when he got on the end of Sergio Busquets’ brilliant ball over the top. Suarez wrapped up an excellent tournament when he headed home Neymar’s cross for Barca’s third.
The Uruguayan forward ended the competition with five goals in two matches, and was the main driving force behind Barcelona’s fifth title of 2015.
Meanwhile, the Spanish and European champions stayed on top of La Liga despite not playing this weekend. Luis Enrique’s men remain level on points with Atletico Madrid who fell 1-0 at Malaga, while Real Madrid cut the gap to two points after their 10-2 rout of Rayo Vallecano.
