Belgian coach Maurice Cooreman has replaced Zakary Baraje, who led Akwa United to a historic Federation Cup triumph last month.
In November, the experienced Baraje guided Akwa United to win a first-ever major trophy at the expense of Lobi Stars in Lagos.
Cooreman has handled several top clubs in Africa including Enyimba, Warri Wolves, Gombe United, Ghana’s Asante Kotoko and until recently, Ikorodu United of Lagos.
This move is surely facilitated by the fact that the Akwa Ibom club will represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup and will face V.Club Mokanda of Congo in the preliminary round of the competition in February.
The 72-year-old who has landed the job on a two-year-deal was unveiled in Uyo yesterday.
